Job Summary
FOUNDING FREEDOMS LAW CENTER (FFLC) is the legal arm of The Family Foundation, which is a non-profit, faith-based organization dedicated to equipping citizens throughout our Commonwealth to advocate for policies—at both the state and local level—that reflect biblical principles and help families thrive. We are uniquely positioned at the center of a national, state, and local coalition. FFLC was formed to provide a counterbalance to the threats Virginians are seeing to their fundamental liberties, especially the right to life, freedom of speech, the right to peaceably assemble, religious freedom, and the rights of parents to raise their children consistent with their values.SENIOR LITIGATION COUNSELKEY RESPONSIBILITIESLitigation amp; Case StrategyCounsel clients concerning and lead all phases of litigation, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trials, and appeals.Develop and implement litigation strategies in collaboration with senior leadership.Draft persuasive complaints, motions, briefs, and appellate filings.Conduct depositions, evidentiary hearings, and oral arguments.Evaluate potential litigation opportunities and recommend case selection.Trial amp; Appellate WorkServe as lead trial counsel in Virginia state and federal court matters.Prepare and present oral arguments in both state appellate courts and federal circuits.Work with co-counsel, outside firms, and allied organizations to coordinate amicus and coalition efforts.Supervision amp; MentorshipAssist in mentoring junior attorneys, legal interns, and law clerks.Provide internal training on litigation skills, constitutional law developments, and trial advocacy.Offer constructive review of written work product and case strategy proposals. Research amp; Policy EngagementConduct advanced legal research related to constitutional law, First Amendment issues, civil rights, and administrative law.Collaborate on white papers, briefs, and public-facing legal analyses supporting TFF/FFLC’s mission.Assist in shaping long-term litigation priorities and institutional strategy. External RepresentationRepresent TFF/FFLC in public speaking engagements, panel discussions, CLEs, and media interviews as appropriate.Build and maintain relationships with allied organizations, law firms, pro bono partners, allied attorneys, and community stakeholders.MISCELLANEOUSThis position reports to FFLC’s Chief Counsel and works closely with Litigation Counsel.This position will lead FFLC’s litigation department and will be responsible for assisting in the supervision and mentoring of attorneys and paraprofessionals in that department.This position is expected to participate generally in daily staff prayer and other regular team meetings.This position is primarily located at the offices of The Family Foundation in downtown Richmond.
