Job Summary
Reports to: Director of Advocacy and Engagement Job Summary: The Advocacy amp; Engagement Assistant supports the Director of Advocacy and Engagement by assisting to fulfill the goals and mission of the field team and Heritage Action. This role serves as a utility player on the field team, with a specialized focus on state lobbying tracking, research, documenting, and writing. This role is responsible for the coordination of various aspects of research projects involving state-based advocacy efforts, including preparing and providing state advocacy materials, state-specific research, and coordinating the drafting of policy recommendations and model legislation with The Heritage Foundation. On occasion, this role may also assist with federal GR requests or other duties that serve the goals and objectives of Heritage Action.Job Duties:Support administrative interfacing with Heritage Foundation staff as required. This includes scheduling meetings, acting as the Director of Advocacy and Engagement’s surrogate in Washington, DC in order to coordinate with Heritage Foundation staff, and taking meeting notes when assigned. Drafting of general advocacy communications including Calls to Action.Assist with the production of advocacy-related collateral such as one page policy summaries, summaries of state legislative activity and other reports as directed.Track the progress of legislation, related grassroots actions, expert and advocate testimony, and contact reporting for legislative engagement by field team members.Provide for accurate record keeping and related administrative activities and expenditures for lobbying compliance as it relates to the field team.Qualifications:Education: High School diploma or equivalentExperience: Some experience in policy, hill or state legislative processes, or grassroots Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skillsTechnology: Competency in using databases, CRMs, G-suite, and similar softwareOther Requirements:Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department’s goals and objectives.Top-quality research, analysis, writing, communication, organization, and creative thinking.Knowledge of the conservative movement and principles; ability to apply principles to policy research, legislative priorities and grassroots activism.Professionalism: highest possible character (maturity, integrity, and accountability).Self-starter with willingness to innovate on how to best accomplish goals.Willing to travel occasionally, when needed. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $65,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
