We produce content across four YouTube channels: Reason TV, The Reason Roundtable, Free Media, and The Reason Interview With Nick Gillespie. One day, you might be helping produce a fast-paced breaking news show, and the next, you’re contributing to a documentary or shaping a story for something new. It’s an energetic, collaborative environment where creative people have a real hand in bringing important ideas to life. We’re now seeking a producer to join our growing team. About the RoleAs a producer, you will play a central role in creating short-form documentaries while also supporting a range of smaller studio productions in our Washington, DC, office. This includes researching, booking, field producing, coordinating shoots, and helping manage projects from development through post-production. The ideal candidate is highly organized, editorially sharp, and able to balance long-form storytelling with fast-turn studio work in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment. They are a news junkie with a knack for picking out punchy headlines and captivating content. It’s imperative that the candidate is not only familiar with Reason’s mission but also has a strong understanding of the libertarian perspective and can articulate Reason’s particular stance on a variety of issues from a breaking-news standpoint. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Reason’s Washington, DC, office and studio, reporting to Managing Editor of Video and Podcasts Natalie Dowzicky.ResponsibilitiesProduce documentaries and smaller studio productions from concept through completionContinuously track the news cycle and conduct research to help develop compelling story ideasBook guests and interviewsCoordinate productions on location and in the studioOversee projects through development, production, and post-productionCollaborate with editors, hosts, and the broader video team to deliver compelling work on deadlineQualificationsAt least 2-3 years of experience in video production or a related fieldAbility to articulate breaking news content from a libertarian angleDeep understanding of the libertarian worldview and alignment with Reason's missionComprehensive grasp of the libertarian worldview and appreciation for Reason’s missionProven experience in documentary or nonfiction video productionStrong editorial instincts, research ability, and attention to detailExcellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience booking talentAbility to travel less than 5%Experience editing in Adobe Premiere is preferred, but not required Compensation, Benefits, and Office LifeThe salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000, with flexibility based on experience.
